Contributing Guide

How to contribute to the idirnet shared brain.

Setup

  1. Install Obsidian
  2. Install Google Drive for Desktop
  3. Sign in with your idirnet Google account
  4. Open the synced idirnet/content folder as an Obsidian vault
  5. Enable community plugins: Templater, Dataview (optional)

Creating Notes

Quick Capture (Fleeting)

  1. Create a new note in 00-Inbox/
  2. Apply the Fleeting Note template
  3. Write your raw thought — don’t worry about polish
  4. Later, process it into a Literature or Permanent note

From a Source (Literature)

  1. Create a new note in 10-Literature/
  2. Apply the Literature Note template
  3. Summarize the source in your own words
  4. Link to related permanent notes

A Refined Idea (Permanent)

  1. Create a new note in 20-Permanent/
  2. Apply the Permanent Note template
  3. Write one atomic idea in your own words
  4. Link generously to related notes

Rules

  • One idea per note — if you’re writing about two things, make two notes
  • Link liberally — use [[wikilinks]] to connect ideas
  • Your own words — never copy-paste from sources
  • Set your author — always fill in the author frontmatter field
  • Don’t overwrite — if you disagree with a note, create a linked response
  • Process your inbox — regularly review fleeting notes and promote or archive them

Publishing

Notes with publish: true in frontmatter appear on the public website. Set publish: false for drafts or private notes.
